Service Description
Writing Transition: A Personal Essay Class Times when we find our identities shifting can be challenging personally but rich artistically. Matrescence, adolescence, menopause, empty nesting, divorce—to name just a few—are life experiences that provide fertile ground for writers to explore the before and the after. In this four-week series, you will read, write, and think about the power of transition as a literary device. Readings will illustrate different ways writers have approached life change; exercises will help you find your own method of structuring a personal essay that explores change as a structural conceit and a fundamental of human experience. Expect to come away with a revisable draft of an essay. Open to all, this workshop will be best for people who have some experience with creative writing and being in conversation with other writers or artists. Class time will be spent writing, in discussion, and possibly in workshop.
